Raffle Licence Instructions

Application Checklist

Applicant Information

  • You must be 18 years old or older to apply for a raffle licence.
  • We will review your eligibility to hold a licence. Submitting an application does not guarantee you will be approved for a raffle licence.
  • You have important responsibilities as a raffle licensee. Please read the FAQs for more information.

Event Information

  • Your event must be a one-time social event held at a public place of amusement. This application cannot be used for multiple or ongoing events.
  • All ticket sales, draws and prize awards must take place at the event. You cannot pre-sell tickets under this type of licence.
  • Your event must be held at a public place of amusement (e.g. banquet hall, restaurant or community hall). Private residences or business (e.g. stores or offices) are not eligible.

Prizes

  • The amount or value of each prize awarded must not exceed $500. Donated prizes are considered to have a value of zero.
  • If you are running a percentage payout raffle (often called a 50/50), you cannot sell more than $1,000 in tickets, as the prize then equals the $500 limit.

Tickets

  • Each ticket must not be sold for more than $2.
  • Groups of tickets can be sold, so long as the price of each individual ticket does not exceed $2. For example, if you sell three tickets for $5, each ticket has a price of $1.67, which is under the $2 maximum.
  • “Arm’s length” tickets can be sold, as long as each arm length has a minimum number of tickets such that the price of each individual ticket does not exceed $2. For example, if an arm’s length costs $20, each person must receive at least 10 tickets.

Processing Time

  • Please apply for your raffle licence as soon as possible. We will send you an email once your application has been processed.
  • Applications are usually processed within two to three business days.
